Assignment Task

Task description:
• Students are to recruit and engage with a consumer who is experiencing illness or who has had previous contact with the health care system. Preferably, your consumer should be a patient you have cared for whilst on clinical placement or a patient/resident in your workplace (if working as a care attendant/AIN). As not all students will have been on placement by the assignment due date, I am happy for students to recruit someone from your private life if that is more convenient.
• Students are to produce a piece of writing which details the consumer’s journey of illness, health and wellbeing. Please refine your discussion to one particular health and wellbeing journey, not their whole life (e.g: particular injury-surgery-rehab-better journey or particular abnormality-investigation-diagnosis-treatment-outcome journey etc).
• Your assignment should be structured using Borton's Framework for reflection 'What?', 'So What?' and 'Now What?' headings
• Your assignment should include the following…

1) Cover page (not included in word count) which includes the unit number and title, the assignment number and title, your student number and the final assignment word count (not the assigned word count).
2) An introduction which clearly and coherently introduces the reader to the consumer interaction, narrative theory, reflection and any other topics to be discussed in the assignment.
3) What? A discussion of your consumer’s journey/version of events (what happened?).
4) So What? A narratives analysis which includes the identification of underlying narrative meanings and a discussion of your consumer’s experience in relation to one of the three narrative theories below… (what does it all mean?).
5) Now What? A reflective component including what your experience could contribute to your future nursing practice (what have you learnt?)
6) A conclusion which clearly and succinctly summarises the key elements of the assignment
7) A reference list which is correctly formatted as per APA 7th edition style requirements
Please choose ONE of the follow three narrative theories
1. Frank’s (1995) Chaos, Restitution and Quest theory
2. Le Boutillier et al’s (2019) Adversity, Restoration and Compatibility theory
3. Gergen and Gergen’s (1986) Progressive, Regressive and Stable theory
Key experiences and events as described by your consumer, common narrative experiences/theory and implications for nursing practice should be supported with evidence from the broader literature (e.g Is your consumer’s journey/experience a common journey/experience for people in similar situations?, are the narratives drawn from your consumer's story common for someone in a similar situation? and are the implications for your future nursing practice evidence based?).
 Notes
• Assignments should adhere to academic writing principals, such as (but not limited to) being structured around an ‘introduction, body, conclusion’ framework’.
• Please always use headings to differentiate key sections of your assignment.
• Students should use either Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman font styles in size 11 or 12. Assignments should be 1.5 or double spaced.
• Please only write in the third person for this assignment. Students MUST use de-identified names for when referring to the consumer in your assignment. This is to protect their confidentiality.
• Assignments should be first submitted through the URKUND portal in Canvas. Please review your URKUND result and make appropriate amendments (if required) prior to your final submission in the Assignment 1 portal on Canvas to avoid plagiarism.
• Marking, moderation and grievances processes will be actioned in accordance with university policy.
